Benefits of green smoothies


A lot of times when people see me with a green smoothie or post about one, they ask if I am doing “a cleanse”. My answer is always no, it is just a way of life for me. I am in no way bashing a cleanse done with green smoothies. I believe that if you are going to do a cleanse, green smoothies are the best way to go. It is natural and you are still getting your needed nutrients.  I initially started making green smoothies when I set out to live a healthier life. It wasn’t about ‘losing weight’ although that was part of the goal, I just wanted to overall be healthier. When you do a cleanse it is only for a certain time period and then you’re finished, but I drink green smoothies regularly. I was having a hard time get all of my vegetable in different forms and tastes. I have no problem with eating vegetables but I was having a hard time coming up with different ways to prepare them. Eating salads were okay but with the way I would make them, it kind of defeated the purpose of eating them. I would load it with croutons, fried onions and all types of ranch salad dressing. So for me it just made it easier to start incorporating green smoothies into my diet.

Green smoothies have a lot of benefits to them:

  1.    Get more vegetables- This was the main reason I started. I wanted to add more vegetables to my diet. This is a simple and easy way to get more green leafy vegetables in the beginning so that you don’t have to deal with the feeling of “chewing on grass”.
  1.    Lose weight- Anything that allows you to lose weight naturally is a plus.
  1.    Fiber increase- Green smoothies have amazing fiber content. Since you are creating a  smoothie and not a juice, all of    the fiber content remains in tack.   
  1.    Clearer skin- Due to all of the antioxidants that are loaded into green smoothies, it will have a positive effect on your skin.
